Steffan on Our NHS & Private Clinical Services

As superintendent pharmacist across the Fferyllwyr Llŷn branches, one of the questions I'm asked most often is: "What can I actually see a pharmacist for these days?" The honest answer is: far more than most people realise.

Through the NHS Wales Common Ailments Service, our pharmacists can consult with you and, where appropriate, supply treatment for a growing list of conditions, free of charge. That includes sore throats, urinary tract infections, hay fever, conjunctivitis, threadworms, and many minor skin conditions. There is no need for a GP appointment and, in most cases, no need to book ahead.

Alongside our NHS work, we offer a range of private clinical services for situations where the NHS pathway isn't appropriate or would involve a long wait. These include travel health consultations and vaccinations, ear wax removal by microsuction, weight management support, and private prescribing for a number of common conditions.

The huge advantage of accessing care through your community pharmacy is speed and continuity. You'll usually be seen the same day, often within minutes, by a pharmacist who already knows you and your medication history.

We also work closely with local GP surgeries, so where onward referral is needed, we can make sure that happens quickly and with the right information already gathered.

If you're not sure whether we can help with something, just ask. Call any branch, pop in, or book online. Even if the answer is that a GP or hospital is the right next step, we'll help point you in the right direction.
